Griptape Guide
Griptapes are categorized using letters and numbers, which indicate the type of adhesive and crystals as well as the grit size. Here’s a breakdown of the most common types:
- 80AB: Abrasive (AB) griptape, dark black, typically found on budget skateboards.
- 80S: Silicon Carbide (S) griptape, the standard for high-quality adhesive and crystals.
- OS60 / OS780: Oil-based glue with Silicon Carbide, used for professional-grade griptape.
- HS780: High-grade Silicon Carbide, offering the highest quality and durability (also the most expensive).
Understanding the Numbers
The number indicates the grit size of the crystals. Smaller numbers mean larger crystals and rougher grit, providing more grip.
- 60: High-grit tape for maximum traction.
- 80: Lower-grit tape, providing smoother grip.
- 780: A mix of size 70 and size 80 crystals, commonly used for pro-grade griptape.

The classic choice. Smooth, reliable, and versatile—ideal for street skating and everyday use. No worries, just grip and go!
Manufacturing Insight
The key to creating premium griptape lies in ensuring that each crystal is applied vertically during production. This technique enhances grip and maximizes durability.
